Oliver North: War without spin

Oliver North: War without spin:
I suppose there are valid objections that people have to the war in Iraq. But as soon as you've left the realm of a valid objection to instead use the twisting of words, the misrepresentation of facts and circumstances, and flat out lies, that is where I say enough. We have brave soldiers in harms way, If you're going to pose objections, make sure they are reasonable and backed up by the facts. Partisianship should stop at the water's edge, only if our troops are doing things which are truly reprehensible (which they are not) or the war is imperialistic and evil (which it is not) should there be such a fight against it. A patriot (One who loves, supports, and defends one's country) would stand up for his country in almost any situation. That is why I think so many on the left are being called unpatriotic. They have shied away from defending their country too easily, and in my opinion they have done it for partisan/political reasons.

1) How was the invasion of Iraq defending our country? The justifications for it that have been presented to us have involved "twisting of words, misrepresentation of facts and circumstances, and flat out lies."

Why must someone have a "partisan/political" agenda simply because his opinion is different from yours? Why is Pat Buchanan opposed to the war? For partisan/political reasons?

2) Patriotism is NOT "my country right or wrong." My love for my country is demonstrated by fighting for the principles on which we base our liberty. Sometimes that means fighting an external foe, but sometimes it means defending those principles against attack from within.

H.L. Mencken said: "The notion that a radical is one who hates his country is naïve and usually idiotic. He is, more likely, one who loves his country more than the rest of us, and thus is more disturbed than the rest of us when he sees it debauched. He is not a bad citizen turning to crime; he is a good citizen driven to despair."

Not a big follower of Buchanan, so I didn't know what he has to say about the war. Googled and found this article:

Concerns me not a little to find myself actually agreeing with him on anything. He's still a really scary guy. Brrr. Makes me shiver.
