Terence Jeffrey: Teed off: Federal funds for golf:
Gee, I wonder why we have a deficit? Could it be that the government spends more than it takes in? No no Aaron, the reason we have a deficit is because we cut taxes and now the government doesn't have the money to pay for all the "essential" programs that it does. When the government has a surplus it means it is doing a real good job of managing "its" money right? But I thought the government didn't have any money unless it took it from tax-payers first. So doesn't a surplus just mean that they've taken even more money than even they were able to figure out how to blow. A budget surplus isn't such a good thing, nor is a deficit. When my bank account is empty, no one will take my checks. Wouldn't it be nice if the government spent money like it had a bank account rather than a credit card with no credit limit? Do you suppose that when the government runs a budget surplus they will give it back to us? I don't think so either.

Yes, indeed. What I find frustrating is that they insist on playing games with the whole process. We can't afford "tax cuts" when we're already in debt, especially when they all go to the wealthy, while the rest of us keep sliding deeper into the hole. I have no objection whatsoever to paying taxes, and I'm even willing to accept that a certain amount of my tax dollar will be spent foolishly. But COME ON!
