Poem: Tossed Upon the Sea

Placid were my former days
And brightly shone the light
Aught knew I of windy seas, but
Swiftly came the night

Darkness, waves and bitter wind
Frightful howling blasts
“T’will soon be over,” I faintly cry
But on and on it lasts

Tarnished hope and dimming faith
As wind and waves rage on
Weakened limbs and weakening heart
“Please Lord, where is the dawn?”

“Lord, give me strength to bear the storm
And faith to calm the sea
Break my proud and stubborn will
Lord, set this captive free

What can I do, how must I change?
I fear I do not know
Where can I turn, who’ll help me through?
Lord, where am I to go?

I won’t give in! I won’t give up!
I’ll trust thy guiding light
Give this wretch just half a chance
Lord, see me through the night”
